Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Joe Biagini has steadily grown into one of the team’s more reliable starters since transitioning from the bullpen in early May.
In six starts this season, the 27-year-old boasts a 3.26 ERA and a 7.7 K/9 in 30.1 innings of work.
The strong numbers lend credence to the idea that he should remain a fixture in the Blue Jays rotation even when the injured Aaron Sanchez returns.
“Biagini, to me, has to stay in. … He has been very consistent,” said MLB Network’s Jon Morosi on Sportsnet 590 The FAN’s The Starting Lineup on Tuesday. “All the peripheral numbers are good, he’s throwing the ball well. I think when you’ve got a team that has started to find its identity, and he has helped to do that, you simply cannot take him out of the rotation. …
“I think you have to look around and say, ‘You know what? We’ve gotta find a way to keep Biagini in there.’ And if you temporarily put somebody else into the bullpen, you do it.”
