Nats place Werth on DL with strained hamstring

Washington Nationals' Jayson Werth.

WASHINGTON — Washington Nationals left fielder Bryce Harper is out of the lineup for a second consecutive game after having an ingrown toenail removed, while right fielder Jayson Werth has been put on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.

As expected, Werth’s roster spot was taken by outfielder Eury Perez, who was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse before Washington hosted the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.

Werth’s stint on the DL is retroactive to May 3. He is batting .260 with four homers and 10 RBIs this season.

Harper had a procedure on his big toe Friday and sat out that night’s game. Manager Davey Johnson originally said he expected Harper back in the lineup Saturday, but the toe is still tender.
