Nick Tepesch will be on the mound for the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday against the New York Yankees. Manager John Gibbons made the announcement Tuesday following a 4-2 victory over the Bronx Bombers.
Tepesch was acquired from the Minnesota Twins for cash considerations back in July, but has yet to make his Blue Jays debut. In fact, the 28-year-old has made just one MLB appearance this season. It was back on May 6 with the Twins when he went 1.2 innings against the Red Sox, allowing five hits, seven runs (only one earned) and walking two. Tepesch has an ERA of 3.00 in three appearances with the triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
In order to make room for Tepesch on the roster, the Blue Jays optioned Matt Dermody. It’s not the first time Dermody has been optioned by Toronto. The 27-year-old lefty has a 15.75 ERA in five games with the Blue Jays in 2017.
The Blue Jays are scheduled to face Masahiro Tanaka Wednesday night at Rogers Centre.
