Panthers’ AHL club to wear David Ortiz-inspired uniforms

John Shannon goes over some of the headlines around the NHL including if the league will try to have more regular season games outside of North America.

While we may never get a chance to see David Ortiz on skates, this may be the next best thing.

The Florida Panthers’ AHL affiliate Springfield Thunderbirds are set to honour the Boston Red Sox legend during their home game on Saturday at MassMutual Center in Massachusetts.

The club will don special Ortiz-inspired uniforms.

The team announced this week that the game has already sold out. Ortiz, who spent 14 years with the Red Sox and helped bring the city three World Series championships, will drop the puck during a pre-game ceremony. He will also meet-and-greet with fans and is planning to bring the 2013 World Series trophy with him.
