PHILADELPHIA — The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed ace right-hander Gerrit Cole on the 60-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation, ending his once promising season.

The Pirates announced the move prior to a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.

Cole returned Monday from a two-week stint on the disabled list with elbow inflammation and allowed five runs, four hits and four walks over two innings against Philadelphia.

Cole told MLB.com he was "disappointed" and that "there’s just not enough time to recover."

Cole finishes his season 7-10 with a 3.88 ERA in 21 appearances. He won five of his first eight starts this season but has gone 2-7 since.
