The Pittsburgh Pirates have filled their void at third base, acquiring veteran infielder Aramis Ramirez in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor-league pitcher Yhonathan Barrios.
Ramirez, 37, is batting .247/.295/.430 with 11 home runs and 42 RBI in 302 plate appearances with the Brewers this season.
The Dominican slugger has ties to the Pirates, having spent parts of six seasons with the club after signing with the organization as an amateur free agent in 1994. He last played for Pittsburgh in 2003.
The Pirates have been in search of a third baseman since Josh Harrison underwent surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb in early July.
