Funkhouser was promoted to High-A Lakeland on Wednesday, Emily Waldon of 2080Baseball.com reports.
Funkhouser, 23, breezed through the Midwest League in five starts, compiling a 3.16 ERA and 49:13 K:BB over 31.1 innings. Though the Tigers nabbed him in the fourth round last summer, Funkhouser probably carries a bit more upside than most players selected around him, as he had previously been the 35th overall pick by the Dodgers in 2015, only to return to Louisville for his senior season and see his draft stock plummet. The 23-year-old figures to see his numbers tail off upon moving up to the Florida State League, but he still shapes up as one of the top arms in a fairly weak Detroit farm system.
