The Oakland Athletics have bolstered their pitching with the addition of Henderson Alvarez, according to a report from Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish.

Although the deal is for one season, the Athletics would control Alvarez through 2017 as he was non-tendered by the Miami Marlins on December 2.

Alvarez, 25, was one of the more intriguing starting options in free agency due to his youth, and the fact he had an all-star season in 2014 going 12-7 with a 2.65 ERA in 187 innings and a league-leading three shutouts.

However, the right-hander made only four starts last season struggling to an 0-4 record and a 6.45 ERA before succumbing to a season-ending shoulder injury that required surgery in July. It’s is unclear whether he will be available to start the 2016 season.

The ground-ball specialist has posted a 3.80 ERA across five seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays and Marlins and tossed the fifth no-hitter in the latter’s history on September 29 2013.
