The Chicago Cubs signed right-handed pitcher Brandon Morrow to a two-year contract with a vesting option for a third year worth $21 million, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
The deal is still pending a physical, but if he passes Morrow will earn $9 million in each of 2018 and 2019. Depending on whether or not Morrow reaches the vesting option, he will receive $12 million in 2020 or a $3 million buyout.
The 33-year-old was signed to a minor league deal in 2017 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and became a pivotal piece of their bullpen going 6-0 while registering a 2.06 ERA in 45 games, which helped them reach the World Series.
From 2010 to 2014, Morrow was a starting pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays and went 34-31 with a 4.40 ERA.
The Santa Rosa, Calif., native also pitched for the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners.
