The Boston Red Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free agent first-baseman Mitch Moreland, according to Ken Rosenthal.
Moreland has spent his entire seven-year career with the Texas Rangers, winning his first Gold Glove award in 2016 while posting a .233 average and .720 OPS.
The 31-year-old has topped 20 home runs in three of the last four seasons and will combine with Hanley Ramirez to occupy the first base and designated hitter positions for Boston.
Adding Moreland is Boston’s third impactful move of the day after landing Chris Sale in a blockbuster deal with the Chicago White Sox and trading for reliever Tyler Thornburg from Milwaukee.
