The Kansas City Royals were nearing a deal to acquire Cincinnati Reds ace Johnny Cueto in a trade, but the deal fell through, according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

Cueto was informed of the trade today and was not happy at the decision. He ended up pitching eight scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night.

Plenty of teams are looking for a starting pitcher at the trade deadline, including the Toronto Blue Jays. Cueto is a player who will draw interest, especially with Cincinnati slipping further away from the playoffs.

The Reds starter is 6-6 with a 2.79 ERA in 18 starts this season.
