Ryan Dempster and Nick Pivetta will reportedly start for Canada at the upcoming World Baseball Classic, according to Jon Morosi of the MLB Network.

Dempster, 39, hasn’t pitched competitively since the 2013 World Series when the Boston Red Sox beat the St. Louis Cardinals. The Sechelt, B.C., native would be slated to start the Canadians’ opener on March 9 against the Dominican Republic.

Pivetta, 24, is a prospect with the Philadelphia Phillies organization who has yet to pitch in the majors. The Victoria native was 1-2 with a 2.55 earned-run average in five starts last year with the triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

Pivetta’s start would line up against Colombia on March 11.
