It’s not getting any easier for Ricky Romero. The 28-year-old left-hander didn’t make it through the fourth inning Thursday when he pitched in a triple-A game against the Pittsburgh Pirates’ top affiliate.
Romero pitched 3.2 innings, allowing four hits, six walks and three runs, two of which were earned. He struck out one hitter and threw one wild pitch without allowing a home run.
Romero’s control issues persisted against an Indianapolis Indians lineup that included former MLB players such as Alex Presley and Josh Harrison. The left-hander threw just 44 of his 86 pitches for strikes.
The Blue Jays demoted Romero to the Buffalo Bisons after two starts at the MLB level. He opened the season in the minor leagues, working with pitching instructor Dane Johnson to refine his delivery before making one start in the Florida State League.
Romero’s first start for Buffalo also went poorly. He allowed ten hits and six earned runs in 3.2 innings.
