SN Hot Stove: Where do the Blue Jays go from here?

Dan Shulman joins Ken and Sid to talk about the struggling Jays pitchers and what it would take to trade away some of their top players.

With the Toronto Blue Jays sporting a 44-52 record heading into Saturday’s game against the Cleveland Indians, many are wondering what the team’s future has in store.

Speaking on the Sportsnet Hot Stove with Dan Riccio and Gare Joyce on Saturday morning, John Grigg claims that if the Blue Jays opt to start a rebuild, then Marcus Stroman would probably have to depart Toronto.

“If you want to start going down that road, Blue Jays fans, then you have to come to the realization that Marcus Stroman is no longer a Blue Jay,” said Grigg. “He’s the one guy on this team who could net you a fortune in terms of prospects.

“Stroman is the best pitcher on the Jays, was a borderline all-star pitcher, is under team control at a cheap rate for, I believe it’s three more years. He is exactly the kind of guy that other teams would be salivating over and would pay a big price for. But that would set you back. That means that you are no longer trying to be competitive, trying to put a good product on the field. That’s a sure sign of a franchise turnaround.”

Stroman, 26, is 9-5 with a 3.10 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 19 starts this season.
