If there is one thing we learned in baseball on Wednesday night, it’s that Giancarlo Stanton doesn’t forget.

First, some context on why a guy who regularly destroys baseballs made a point of jumping down the line with his arms flailing in the eighth inning of a blowout game.

Tues. July 25

The Texas Rangers carried a 10-4 lead into the ninth inning at home against the Miami Marlins in the second game of a three-game set. The Marlins had taken the opening contest by a score of 4-0.

Former Toronto Blue Jays reliever Jason Grilli got the ball in the final frame. After giving up a pair of singles and recording two outs, he was set to face Stanton. Grilli fell behind 2-0, but battled back to strike out Stanton swinging on six pitches, ending the game.

Anyone who watched the 40-year-old pitch for the Blue Jays knows what happened after that.

Wed. July 26

They meet again.

This time, the Marlins were taking it to the Rangers. Leading 13-5 after seven innings, Stanton stepped into the box against Grilli in the top of the eighth inning.

After falling behind 2-0 again, Grilli served up a 91.7 MPH fastball. Stanton didn’t miss it, and he made sure everyone knew he had just crushed his league-leading 33rd home run, especially the man on the mound.

Stanton and the Marlins got the last laugh as they went on to win 22-10.
