Stroman on Rogers Centre return: ‘I got the chills’

Marcus Stroman joined Brady & Walker to discuss all the different emotions felt during his return start for the Blue Jays, his team building NFL trip, his time at Duke University, and much more.

It doesn’t take much to excite Marcus Stroman. He might be the most positive person in all of baseball.

However, the Toronto Blue Jays pitcher is especially excited for this weekend’s series against the Boston Red Sox in Toronto where he’s scheduled to pitch Friday night in his 2015 Rogers Centre debut.

“I got the chills,” Stroman said Wednesday afternoon in a guest appearance on Brady & Walker. “I can’t wait to get back to Toronto and put on the jersey and toe the rubber.

“My first appearance back in The 6. (I’m) more excited for this than Yankee Stadium.”

Stroman, who was initially expected to miss the entire 2015 campaign after tearing his ACL in spring training, made his first start of the season for the Blue Jays last Saturday against the New York Yankees. He allowed three earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks in five innings of work in Toronto’s 10-7 victory in the second leg of a doubleheader.

The 24-year-old right-hander will be a regular part of the Blue Jays’ rotation for the remainder of the season as the team shifted struggling starter Drew Hutchison to the bullpen prior to Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves.

Stroman appeared in 26 games, making 20 starts, for the Blue Jays last year. He went 11-6 with a 3.65 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 130.2 innings.
