ARLINGTON, Texas — The Detroit Tigers have optioned right-hander Al Alburquerque to Triple-A Toledo and recalled right-hander Evan Reed.

Alburquerque has struggled with his control, and took the loss in Wednesday’s game against Houston, leaving manager Jim Leyland frustrated. The 24-year-old has struck out 26 in 14 1-3 innings this year, but he’s also walked 13 and thrown six wild pitches.

The 27-year-old Reed has never pitched in the major leagues. He’s gone 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA with Toledo this season. The Tigers claimed him from the Miami Marlins in April.

Detroit plays at Texas on Thursday night.
