Tulowitzki ‘blindsided’ by trade to Blue Jays

Plenty of people in the baseball world were caught by surprise when they learned about the Toronto Blue Jays’ acquisition of Troy Tulowitzki from the Colorado Rockies.

Count Tulowitzki himself among them.

“I felt like I got blindsided a bit. I thought I was in the loop, in the conversation,” Tulowitzki told The Denver Post. “So it definitely caught me by surprise.”

The 30-year-old shortstop — who Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos calls “the best shortstop in baseball” — was dealt to Toronto early Tuesday morning along with reliever LaTroy Hawkins in exchange for shortstop Jose Reyes, reliever Miguel Castro and pitching prospects Jeff Hoffman and Jesus Tinoco.

“I want to thank all of the Rockies fans for their support,” Tulowitzki added. “I will always remember the Tu-lo chant every time I came to the ballpark. It put a smile on my face every time.”
