CHICAGO — The White Sox will retire the No. 14 uniform of retired captain Paul Konerko.

Chicago said Thursday it will honour the six-time All-Star before a May 23 game against Minnesota.

Konerko will be the 11th player whose number is retired by the White Sox. That includes Jackie Robinson, whose No. 42 was retired for all of Major League Baseball in 1997.

Konerko spent 16 seasons with the White Sox and hit a grand slam in Game 2 of the 2005 World Series as Chicago swept Houston for its first title since 1917. He is the franchise leader in total bases (4,010), is second in home runs (432) behind Hall of Famer Frank Thomas and third in hits (2,292).
