MANKATO, Minn. -- The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed veteran Bonzi Wells, who hasn't played in an NBA game since 2008.
Wells signed his contract Thursday, the same day the Timberwolves completed a three-year deal with second-round pick Malcolm Lee.
The 35-year-old Wells earned a reputation as a hothead during his earlier years with the Portland Trail Blazers. But he connected with new Minnesota coach Rick Adelman during stops in Sacramento and Houston, and the Wolves hope he can add some veteran toughness to a very young team.
The six-foot-five Wells will provide some much-needed depth at shooting guard for the Timberwolves.
Signing Wells and Lee gives the Wolves 16 players on their roster. That means they will have to make a move with another player before the regular season opens Dec. 26.
