Raptors forward Andrea Bargnani was unable to play in Toronto’s 95-90 loss on Friday night to the Indiana Pacers due to a strained left calf muscle.
Bargnani suffered the injury in Wednesday’s 98-91 loss to the Sacramento Kings and has been listed by the Raptors as day-to-day.
Raptors coach Dwane Casey said Bargnani told him he was disappointed by the injury.
“I saw (Bargnani) this morning after the shootaround. He’s disappointed. He had a good run going,” Casey said. “Hopefully he can come back and be at full strength.
Bargnani underwent an MRI on Thursday and Casey said doctors, both Italian and Canadian, haven’t had a chance to fully analyze the results yet.
The Italian wasn’t likely injured on a specific play but more as a result of the Raptors busy schedule which has seen them play seven games in nine days.
“(Bargnani) doesn’t remember when it happened so that tells you that it was a wear-and-tear type of injury,” Casey said.
The 26-year-old power forward, who leads the Raptors in scoring at 22.3 points per game, missed four games with a similar injury last season.
“It’s a big loss right now. He’s been playing like an all-star,” Raptors guard Leandro Barbosa said. “Everybody’s going to step in to get those victories until he comes back.”
