1-on-1 with new Toronto Raptor Delon Wright

Delon Wright joined Brady & Walker to talk about being drafted to the Raptors and what he can learn from the two pillars of the franchise- Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan.

Delon Wright is the newest member of the Toronto Raptors, a 23-year-old point guard with braces on his teeth and tons of tattoos on his arms.

A day after he was selected 20th overall in the NBA draft, Wright addressed a bunch of media at the ACC. He’d only slept a couple hours on the plane, not that he looked tired. Wright, whose older brother Dorell plays for the Portland Trail Blzers, took a quick minute for a chat with Sportsnet. The 6-foot-5 standout with the Utah Utes had a perma-grin on his face.

Sportsnet: What’s it like to be in the middle of all this excitement?

Delon Wright: It’s crazy. It hasn’t hit me yet. I don’t know when it’s gonna hit me, but I’m just enjoying this, trying to make the best of it.

SN: What did you do to celebrate?

DW: We were having a draft party. I hung out with my friends at the draft party and then I went straight to the airport after that to come here. This is my second time in Toronto. I came here to work out like a week and a half, two weeks ago.

SN: You already know to call it the 6ix. What else do you know about this city?

DW: Great city. And it’s very diverse. That’s the main thing I’ve been hearing so far.

SN: That’s true. Do you know where you’ll live yet?

DW: No idea. Hopefully I’ll figure that out sometime; I dunno.

SN: The traffic here is brutal, but it’s way better than it is in L.A.

DW: It is? That’s a good thing. That’s a real good thing.

SN: What should Raptors fans know about you that maybe they don’t?

DW: Ummm. Uuuhhhh. I like to watch Netflix, I guess. [Laughs]. Yeah. I like Orange is the New Black. I know everybody likes that. I also really like Breaking Bad.

SN: You have a lot of tattoos.

DW: They all mean something. I have some family names on there, brother and sister, my nephew, first nephew, the California logo, some other ones. They hurt a lot, but they’re a little addictive. You want to keep fillin’ up.

SN: Maybe you’ll get a giant dinosaur on your back.

DW: No, I won’t get that. [Laughs]. I won’t get that.

SN: Have you met the Raptor yet?

DW: I haven’t, no.

SN: Do you have a We The North t-shirt yet?

DW: This t-shirt I have on is the only one I just got. I feel like in the next couple days I’ll get some gear.

SN: You have a lot to do, really. We’ll let you go. Last question: What are you most looking forward to?

DW: Being a part of this organization. Meeting the guys, playing my first game and tryin’ to get better. Tryin’ to pitch in and help us out.

SN: Thanks, Delon.

DW: Thank you.
