The Canadian men’s national basketball team has bolstered its coaching staff in preparation for Olympic qualification.

Jay Triano remains the head coach of the squad with Carleton Ravens bench boss Dave Smart also returning as an assistant. Joining them are David Vanterpool, an assistant coach with the Portland Trail Blazers and Jim Boylen, a member of Greg Popovich’s staff in San Antonio.

Vanterpool has vast experience with the international game while Boylen has served as a coach on three NBA championship teams.

Canada will look to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics at the FIBA Americas Championship in Mexico City at the beginning of September.
