Canada Basketball released the roster for the upcoming Tuto Marchand Cup and the most notable absent name is Carl English.
The team stated in a release that the veteran shooting guard will not be joining the team in Puerto Rico for “personal reasons” although he had been struggling with injury throughout training camp.
“This is an unfortunate situation for Carl. He has been a mainstay with the program for several years and a strong influence on the team during training camp, but we will move forward without him,” head coach Jay Triano said in a release. “We will miss his scoring ability, veteran leadership and international experience.”
Canada will use the five-team Tuto Marchand Cup to tune up for FIBA Americas Championship in Venezuela which is a qualifier for next summer’s World Cup.
The coaching staff will need to trim the roster down to 12 before the action moves to Venezuela.
