The Charlotte Bobcats have designated Tyrus Thomas as the team’s amnesty player.

The 6-foot-10 forward became expendable after the Bobcats signed free agent centre Al Jefferson.

Thomas was owed more than $18 million over the remaining two years of his contract.

The 26-year-old averaged 4.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in 26 games for Charlotte last season.

He was originally selected fourth overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 2006 NBA Draft.
