Most prospects dream of being selected with the No. 1 pick, but not Lonzo Ball.
The California native has made it clear to the Boston Celtics, who hold the top pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, that he won’t be working out for them to showcase his talents as one of this year’s top prospects.
“We tried to get (Lonzo) in for a workout and they politely declined,” said Danny Ainge, the Celtics president of basketball operations, Thursday on The Sports Hub’s Toucher & Rich.
Ainge also noted that the Celtics have drafted players in the past that they haven’t worked out. But the message Ball is trying to send to Ainge is definitely clear: he wants to be selected by the Lakers, who hold the No. 2 pick and the privilege of being the only team that can schedule a workout with him before draft night.
