The Los Angeles Lakers made a bit of a splash Tuesday, naming legendary former player Earvin “Magic” Johnson as president of basketball operations and in the process firing longtime general manager Mitch Kupchak.
Shortly after, Johnson made his first move in the role, trading the team’s leading scorer, Lou Williams, to the Houston Rockets for Corey Brewer and a first-round pick.
The Lakers making a move isn’t exactly surprising, (the team has the third–worst record in the league at 19-39), but seeing them name Johnson to the role of president is a bit of a shocker.
Even after the shrewd move to get a first-rounder for Williams, it hasn’t exactly inspired much confidence within Lakers Nation. Why? Well, a quick glance at his Twitter should give you all the information you need:
So…let’s just say Magic isn’t necessarily the best evaluator of talent – and can really, really point out the obvious.
But that’s OK, he won five rings with Lakers. What could possibly go wrong?
