Former Toronto Raptors lead assistant Johnny Davis has joined Mike D’Antoni’s staff with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Lakers legend Kurt Rambis will be returning to the fold for his fourth stint as an assistant coach as well.

“Kurt and Johnny bring many years of NBA experience both as coaches and as former players to this team,” said Lakers Head Coach Mike D’Antoni. “Kurt is a great basketball mind, extremely good at working with big men and his experience as a head coach in this league is going to prove very helpful to our staff. Johnny is a two-time NBA head coach with years of experience playing as well as coaching in this league. The vast array of NBA knowledge he brings to the table will be invaluable to us.”

Davis spent the last two seasons on the bench in Toronto after moving north from Memphis. The former Raptors assistant has had a pair of NBA head coaching jobs in Philadelphia and Orlando in addition to stints as an assistant with several other NBA franchises over his 20-plus seasons in the NBA.

Rambis, who helped the Lakers to titles as a player in 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988; was an assistant with the Lakers from 1994-1999, 2001-04 and 2005-09.

The two join Dan D’Antoni, who was the lone holdover from last season’s staff as well as Mark Madsen and Larry Lewis, who were hired earlier this summer as player development coaches.
