Canada’s men’s basketball team defeated Puerto Rico 78-72 to finish their tune-up run at the Tuto Marchand Continental Cup a perfect 4-0.
More importantly than the wins, however, is Canadian star Andrew Wiggins appears to be in fine form.
Late in the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s contest, Wiggins blew by a defender, rose up high and came down with the force of a mighty maple tree getting chopped down, taking poor J.J. Barea with him.
The NBA rookie of the year finished with a game-high 20 points, but no two were any louder than the tomahawk slam you see above.
With the exhibition season behind them, things will get real fast for Canada as it begins group play in the FIBA Americas Championship in Mexico City on Sept. 1 against Argentina.
Head coach Jay Triano and his staff will make one cut to the roster before play begins.
