The Miami Heat pushed their winning streak to 27 games on Monday with a 108-94 over the Orlando Magic.
The victory leaves them just six games behind the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers winning streak of 33 games.
To put these two streaks into perspective, consider that the closest anyone has come to the Lakers prior to this season were the 2007–08 Houston Rockets, who won 22 straight. They were only able to get 66 per cent of the way there.
We have put together a win-by-win chart to help keep an eye on the Heat as they creep closer to the magic number.
An interesting note is that the Lakers streak ended with a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Jan. 9, 1972. If the Miami Heat were to reach No. 34 they will also have to face the Milwaukee Bucks.
