In today’s intense celebrity-focused world, people of fame and repute have a tendency to avoid the media so they can have more control over the messages they send out.
Athletes are no different … unless you’re Jimmy Butler, it would seem.
In a press conference officially introducing him to the media on Thursday, the new Minnesota Timberwolves star said he’s willing to hear any amount of criticism at any time, offering his phone number in the process for anyone who’d like an interview with him.
“Everybody is entitled to their opinion but, with that being said, my phone’s in my back pocket right now,” Butler said with cheeky grin. “Whoever has anything to say to me feel free: 773-899-6071. So, if you want an interview, there you have it. Please do.”
Butler was traded to the Timberwolves on NBA Draft night after spending his entire six-season career with the Chicago Bulls. A three-time all-star, Butler averaged a career-high 23.9 points per game on 45.5 per cent shooting last season.
