Greatness recognizes greatness.

The famous saying was especially exemplified when Kendrick Lamar honoured another California legend in Paul Pierce with a tribute video posted to the Clippers’ Twitter account on Thursday afternoon.

The 39-year-old Pierce is one of the most successful basketball players to come from the Golden State. Originally from Oakland, Pierce played high school basketball in Inglewood and finished his career in Los Angeles with the Clippers. The video, narrated by Lamar, is a tribute to his recent retirement.

A 10-time all-star, Pierce signed with the Clippers at the tail end of his 18-year NBA career after playing for the Washington Wizards, Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics.

Judging by the video, there doesn’t seem to be any hard feelings about Pierce taking away a championship from the city of Los Angeles, when he beat the Lakers to win the 2008 Finals MVP award with the Celtics.
