Lowry: Joseph ‘can get to the basket at will’

Kyle Lowry sees a lot of promise in fellow point guard Cory Joseph and likes what he and some of the other new additions are bringing to the Toronto Raptors.

“With the addition of DeMarre [Carroll] he gives you a full-time defender, Lowry told Joey Vendetta on Sportsnet 590 The FAN’s Jeff Blair show on Monday. “I think he has potential to be a defensive-player-of-the-year type player.

“Cory is just figuring out that he can get to the basket at will and finish the ball. He was in a system where everything was ball movement, ball movement and he drives-and-kicks, but he’s starting to understand that he can get into the paint and get his shot. We talk every game and I told him he has to be aggressive. With the type of team we have we need our guards to be aggressive. That’s the one thing he’s learning to be. …

Bismack Biyombo has given us that defensive energy that we need. He’s given us the shot blocking, he’s given us the talking when he’s in there and he’s given us somebody that can go get it and get extra possessions and make sure that we capture that defensive rebound.”
