Millsap scores 21 as Hawks beat thin Grizzlies

Paul Millsap scores 21 points to lead the Hawks over the injury-depleted Grizzlies 95-83 on Saturday.

ATLANTA — Paul Millsap scored 21 points, and the Atlanta Hawks beat the depleted Memphis Grizzlies 95-83 on Saturday night.

Al Horford had 19 points and Jeff Teague scored 18 for Atlanta, which grabbed the lead by closing the first half with a 30-10 run.

Before the game, the Grizzlies said guard Mike Conley will miss at least three to four weeks with Achilles tendinitis in his left foot. Conley missed his fourth straight game.

Memphis had won two of its last three without Conley, but appeared to wear down while playing for the second straight night. The Grizzlies’ long list of injured players also includes centre Chris Andersen and forward Zach Randolph.

Lance Stephenson scored 18 points for Memphis, and Tony Allen had 15.

Randolph missed his fourth straight game with a sore right knee. Coach David Joerger said Vince Carter (left calf) was feeling "much better." Carter was in uniform but did not play.

Before the game, Joerger said the plan was to lean on Stephenson, who was coming off a career-high 33 points against New Orleans.

"If we just give it to Lance and get out of the way, we’re cool," Joerger said.

Stephenson also had eight rebounds and six assists.

Briante Weber, who played 40 minutes in Friday night’s overtime win over New Orleans in his first appearance after signing a 10-day contract, had two points in 31 minutes. The Grizzlies signed Weber after waiving guard Mario Chalmers, who ruptured his right Achilles tendon in a loss at Boston on Wednesday night.

Memphis led 31-19 early in the second quarter before the Hawks stormed to a 49-41 advantage at the break. Much of the closing surge came with an unusual lineup that included Kirk Hinrich, making only his third appearance since joining the Hawks in a trade on Feb. 18, and Kris Humphries.

Teague sank back-to-back 3s early in the run.

Hinrich also played ahead of Dennis Schroder, the normal backup point guard, in the second half and had three assists.
