The Brooklyn Nets contacted Phil Jackson to discuss their vacant coaching role on Monday but he decided to pass on the job according to Yahoo Sports.

The former Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls head coach has previously said that he is not interested in a return to coaching but would rather take on a front office role.

Jackson is currently assisting the Detroit Pistons in their search for a new coach as a favour to team owner Tom Gores.

A source told the New York Daily News that Jackson is the only candidate the Nets have contacted thus far.

Former Lakers, Bucks and Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy is said to be lobbying for the opening although ESPN’s Chris Broussard reported Monday that Jackson, TCU coach Larry Brown and Pacers assistant Brian Shaw compose the shortlist at the moment.

It was reported by ESPN last week that the Toronto Raptors were interested in hiring Jackson to become the team’s team president.
