Kobe sucks! Kobe sucks! Kobe sucks!
If you’ve been to an NBA arena over the past 20 years with the Los Angeles Lakers paying a visit, that’s a chant you’ve likely heard.
As Kobe Bryant gets set to play his final NBA game on Wednesday night it’s important to remember that for the many ardent fans he’s picked up over the years, there are just as many who would sooner choke on their own vomit than say anything nice about the retiring superstar.
Kobe’s haters are as much apart of his legacy as his 81-point game or his five championships, and it’s from this important aspect of his career that a new Nike commercial released specially for his retirement day draws its inspiration.
Changing the lyrics of Otis Redding’s I’ve been loving you too long and featuring cameos from two of Bryant’s greatest nemeses in Paul Pierce and Rasheed Wallace, the commercial does a great job at poking fun at all the vitriol that has come Bryant’s way over the years.
It just wouldn’t be Mamba Day without a little bit of that signature anti-Kobe venom, after all.
