MSG Network has quickly decided to pull the plug on a racy new ad campaign promoting their New York Knicks coverage.
A spokesman from MSG told ESPN.com that they were taking down a series of posters which might be deemed insensitive to women.
One of the signs read, “It’s Friday night. You can either go out and attempt to pick up sixes and sevens or stay home and watch Kidd dish out dimes.”
On Monday, the New York Post reported that another one of the ads was being pulled as it took a dig at “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” — a broadway musical show that has made headlines with several accidents during production.
“It’s Friday night,” the ad which featured Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire read. “You can either see a Broadway harness malfunctioning or you can watch real men fly.”
Five different actors were injured due to failed stunts during the musical’s run. The paper jokingly noted that Stoudemire is currently on the shelf by saying, “Ironically, Stoudemire seems more injury prone these days than the ‘Spider-Man’ cast.”
“The ad was simply bad judgement on our part,” a spokesman for the company told the paper. “We’re in the process of having them immediately removed. We apologize to anyone who was offended.”
While neither the Knicks nor its players were directly involved in creating the ad campaign, the network and the team both fall under the ownership of the The Madison Square Garden Company.
Does MSG really think this is a good ad? Wow twitpic.com/bb4mtj — darren rovell (@darrenrovell) November 7, 2012
