Michael Jordan was one of three sports figures to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom at the White House on Tuesday.
The award is the highest civilian honour and given to those who have made meritorious contributions to the United States in a number of fields.
In Jordan’s case, he was honoured for the significant cultural contributions he made as a basketball player, entrepreneur and, of course, Internet meme.

Kareem Abdul-Jabaar, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, and legendary Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully were also among the 21 new honourees.
