AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — The Detroit Pistons have hired Brian Wright to serve as their assistant general manager.

Team president Stan Van Gundy announced the move in a release Monday. Wright will assist general manager Jeff Bower, who was hired about a month ago to work with Van Gundy.

Van Gundy says Wright understands the team’s vision and what the front office is trying to accomplish.

Wright joins the Pistons after eight seasons with the Orlando Magic. He was the director of college scouting last season.

The team announced last week that George David was stepping down as assistant general manager. David was a holdover from last season’s front office, which had Joe Dumars as president and GM.
