Raptors fans celebrating Lowry buzzer-beater mistaken for gunshots

Watch as Kyle Lowry heaves up a half court shot and sinks it to force OT between the Raptors and Heat.

Needless to say, nobody saw it coming. Kyle Lowry had made just two of his eleven shots before hitting a miraculous half-court heave at the buzzer to complete a late 4th quarter comeback and send the Raptors into OT against the Heat in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semi-final series. Some fans surely reacted with stunned silence, and those left in the arena erupted in cheers (those who had left the game early— and there were many— surely regretted their decision).

But one group on Vaughan Rd. got a bit rowdy–and understandably so. At 9:38 pm the Toronto Police were called with a report of gunshots being fired in the area.

Nineteen minutes later, the police provided the following update:

Despite Lowry’s late heroics, the Raptors went on to lose the game in overtime 102-96. It was the fourth time in playoff history a game had been sent to OT with a halfcourt buzzer-beater, though none of those teams have ever gone on to win the game.
