The Toronto Raptors have filed a protest over the controversial ending to Sunday night’s game against the Sacramento Kings, according to Sportsnet’s Michael Grange.
With the protest filed, the NBA now has five days to make a ruling. Filing the protest cost the Raptors $10,000. The team will get its money back should their complaint be successful.
There has only been one successful protest in the last 30 years. The Miami Heat won a ruling that saw Shaquille O’Neal get incorrectly disqualified from a contest with the Atlanta Hawks in January 2008 because of a personal foul he shouldn’t have been assessed.
Toronto likely won’t be as fortunate as the Heat were as the league has already upheld the decision made in Sunday’s game in Sacramento. Also, a result has never been overturned due to a timing issue.
A best-case scenario for the Raptors would be to have Terrence Ross’ shot count and then have both teams play that overtime at another date. However, the Raptors and Kings aren’t scheduled play each other again this season.
