Report: Raptors likely out of Gay chase

The rumours continue to swirl about Rudy Gay but one team that appears to be out of the running to acquire the Grizzlies forward is the Toronto Raptors.

Doug Smith of the Toronto Star reports that the Grizzlies’ asking price of Jose Calderon, Terrence Ross and a young big man has cooled off the Raptors’ interest. It is believed that Jonas Valanciunas’s name has come up in the talks and that is definitely a non-starter for Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo.

With each passing day it seems as though a new team and a new player is included in rumoured trade discussions with the latest being the Washington Wizards.

A story in the Memphis Commercial-Appeal says that the Wizards have included rookie shooting guard Bradley Beal as part of an offer for Gay but that seems highly unlikely as the Washington Post reports that while the two sides have talked, the only players that are off-limits from the Washington side would be Beal and John Wall.

The Wizards appear to be an ideal trading partner for Memphis as they could offer a package including young talent, expiring contracts and draft picks for Gay.

The Grizzlies are said to be considering moving either Gay or Zach Randolph as they try to get under the salary cap. Randolph has a similar deal to Gay but his age means he would likely net less in return.

The lengthy list of teams that have been linked with deals for Gay over the past week or so also includes Phoenix, Sacramento, Boston, Golden State and Minnesota.
