Raptors’ Valanciunas breaks bone in left hand

Jonas Valanciunas apparently fractured his hand after this play led to him hitting the rim of the net.

Toronto Raptors centre Jonas Valanciunas broke a bone in his left hand on Friday night in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Raptors announced on their Twitter account that X-rays revealed a fracture of the fourth metacarpal and he is expected to undergo further tests. The tweet also said Valanciunas wouldn’t return to the game.

The injury occurred when Kobe Bryant fouled Valanciunas under the Toronto basket in the final minute of the first half.

Valanciunas played 17:36 prior to the injury, scoring three points with three rebounds and two assists.

The seven-foot, 255 pound Lithuanian and former first-round draft pick has averaged 13.5 points-per game and 9.8 rebounds per game this season.
