Over the last few days, the L.A. Clippers and Boston have reportedly been involved in discussions surrounding Celtics coach Doc Rivers and forward Kevin Garnett but those talks appear to have stalled again.
The Celtics were asking too much from the Clippers and Los Angeles has chosen to pass on making a deal, according to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times.
Rumours first surfaced of discussions between the two NBA clubs on Saturday with the framework of the deal that would see DeAndre Jordan and a first-round pick move to Boston for Kevin Garnett. Boston would then allow Rivers out of the contract that will pay him $21 million over the next three seasons to join Los Angeles.
The Celtics, who appear ready to blow things up and begin retooling, were looking to dump salary and add younger assets like Jordan and Eric Bledsoe. The Clippers appeared to be unhappy with the idea of giving up too many young assets or taking on too much salary in order to acquire an aging veteran and one of the highest-paid coaches in the league.
Celtics general manager Danny Ainge called Rivers and informed him that the deal was off and that the team would be happy to have him back but the Celtics coach seems undecided about his future in Boston, according to Yahoo! Sports.
The two sides will come to a resolution over the next few days.
Meanwhile, the Clippers will now push their coaching search in a different direction with Pacers assistant Brian Shaw, former Cavaliers coach Byron Scott and ex-Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins expected to be interviewed.
