The Memphis Grizzlies are making a move to address their slumping offence.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Grizzlies are finalizing a trade to acquire guard Mario Chalmers from the Miami Heat in exchange for point guard Beno Udrih and power forward Jarnell Stokes.
Chalmers, 29, has a career average of 8.8 points per game on 42.2 per cent shooting and should provide the Grizzlies scoring off the bench. He started to see his minutes decline in Miami once the team traded and later re-signed Goran Dragic.
Miami will save $6 million in luxury tax payments on the deal, per Wojnarowski.
Chalmers got off to a slow start in 2015-16, recording an average of 5.5 points and 3.2 assists in six games, and should serve as the backup point guard behind starter Mike Conley.
The Anchorage, Alaska native is in the final year of his contract and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2015-16 season.
Udrih, 33, is averaging 5.9 points and 3.3 assists per game in eight games this season. He has played 756 career games with the Grizzlies, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, Sacramento Kings, and San Antonio Spurs.
Memphis, 3-5, currently ranks last in the Western Conference in scoring with just 91 points per game. Only the Brooklyn Nets have scored less.
