Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap has decided to opt out of his contract for the 2017-18 season, reports Shams Charania of The Vertical.
An all-star in each of the past four seasons, Millsap was due to make north of $21 million had he exercised his player option for the coming season. Instead, he will seek a multi-year deal on the free agent market.
Millsap averaged 18.1 points and 7.7 rebounds on a career-worst 44 per cent shooting in 69 games for the Hawks. Despite the shooting struggles, the 32-year-old remains a high-level target for teams seeking a frontcourt upgrade due to his strong offensive and defensive abilities.
The Hawks finished the season as the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, losing to the Washington Wizards in six games in the first round of the playoffs.
