LeBron James‘ looming free agency is hanging over the entire NBA, and the Philadelphia 76ers could wind up as a major player in the sweepstakes.
League executives believe the 76ers will attempt to sign James once he hits the open market, according to a report from Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today.
The Los Angeles Lakers are a team often rumoured to be a frontrunner for James’ services as the superstar owns a home in the area and also has multiple entertainment business projects stationed in California.
If James is looking to stay in the Eastern Conference, Philadelphia would make an intriguing landing spot given the plethora of young talent on the roster. That youth also gives the 76ers more cap flexibility than other teams looking to take on a contract worth north of $30 million annually.
James is enjoying yet another MVP-calibre season, averaging 28.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game on 58 per cent shooting.
