First Masai Ujiri left Denver and then George Karl soon followed. Now it appears as though the Nuggets may lose a third major piece of the puzzle from a team that won 57 games while finishing third in the Western Conference.
Forward Andre Iguodala has chosen to opt out of the final year of his contract and will test free agency, according to a report from Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojanarowski.
Iguodala isn’t expected to officially opt out of his contract until June 25 but has informed the Nuggets of his decision.
“We are fully aware of Andre’s intentions and he’s well aware of how much we want him back,” Nuggets CEO Josh Kroenke said. “Andre us a huge priority for our organization.”
There are plenty of teams with cap space this summer and very few top tier free agents available. Iguodala falls into a tier of players just behind Dwight Howard and Chris Paul and could attract interest from the Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons and New Orleans Hornets among others, league sources told the web site.
