Earlier today a report from Deadline Hollywood sent the social media world into a frenzy when it stated that a sequel to Space Jam was in the works and that it would star none other than LeBron James. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst later clarified that there was no such project in the works.

A summary of the original report is below.

A sequel to Space Jam that would star the Miami Heat’s LeBron James is in the works according to a report in Deadline Hollywood.

It would mark the first time that the two-time NBA champion has starred in a major motion picture. He hosted Saturday Night Live as a 22-year old.

The report states that Dick Ebersol’s family is attached to the project. Charlie Ebersol has worked on projects affiliated with the NFL while Willie Ebersol has an Emmy award for his work during the 2012 London Olympics.

The first Space Jam film starred Michael Jordan and ended up being a box office success; grossing $230 million worldwide. Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Shawn Bradley, Charles Barkley and Muggsy Bogues also starred in the film alongside several Looney Tunes characters.

The franchise has been active lately as ‘Space Jam’ recently became a playable mode in the latest release of the NBA 2K video game series.
