The San Antonio Spurs have renounced Jonathon Simmons, making him an unrestricted free agent, according to the Vertical’s Shams Charania.

Even though Simmons will be allowed to test the market, the 27-year-old is reportedly still in talks with the Spurs.

Simmons has played two seasons with San Antonio, averaging 6.1 points on 45.1 per cent shooting after appearing in the NBA’s G-League.

At six-foot-six, he’s an athletic wing who has also had his fair share of high-flying dunks. He has some playoff experience under his belt, after averaging 15.3 points during the 2017 Western Conference Finals.

When Simmons was a restricted free agent, the New York Knicks and Sacramento Kings were two teams rumoured to be interested in acquiring his services.

Now that he’s unrestricted, Simmons could very well be the best guard still available on the market.
